Inauguration of the ASTRI Telescope
17 September 2014
On September 24th 2014, at 3:30 pm, in the context of the CTA Consortium meeting to be held at Giardini Naxos (Catania, Italy) from 22nd to 26th of September it will be inaugurated the ASTRI telescope, a prototype developed in the perspective of the implementation of the CTA SST (Small Size Telescope) array.
ASTRI (Astrofisica con Specchi a Tecnologia Replicante Italiana) is a flagship project of the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research related to the next generation IACT (Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope), within the framework of the CTA (Cherenkov Telescope Array) International Observatory. Among the number of technological challenges, this telescope will be the very first instrument implementing both the Schwarzschild-Couder optical configuration and the double reflection for air Cherenkov imaging.
The event will take place at the Serra La Nave astronomical site, on the slopes of the Etna volcano.
