LINKING INDUSTRIES TO ASTROPARTICLE PHYSICS RESEARCH
“It is important for us to make the researchers understand how we adopt the best scientific ideas to the industrial resources and possibilities…” HAMAMATSU Photonics, Olga Stroh
SCIENTIFIC PROGRESS THROUGH TECHNOLOGY
European astroparticle physicists are looking ahead to the next generation of experiments. The top priority projects in the European Astroparticle Physics Roadmap 2016 will require the solution of new technological challenges. Industrial companies will be key suppliers of goods and services. Success of the projects depend on new technology and the availability of a variety of advanced products in large quantities. As the total investment for these projects is estimated on the billion euro scale over the next decade, it is important to carefully develop the timing of the projects and their needs as well as the market availability of key products, allowing all stakeholders to plan thoroughly. Technology Forums (originally developed through the European funded ASPERA programme) continue to provide a discussion forum for companies, project scientists, and funding agencies to define the future ways of boosting cooperation to the benefit of all stakeholders. APPEC also continues the interaction between astroparticle physics researchers and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that was begun with ASPERA. This leads to better coordination of R&D efforts and their faster application in industry, commerce and other scientific areas.
